4th European Summer School In HCS: Completed

Two Day Conference (13-14 September 1997): Completed

Cultural Renaissance and Cities of Innovation At the dawn of the new Millenium, we are witnessing an unprecedented convergence of technological inovations, institutional forms, economic and social organisations. The presence of information and communications media have become so substantial in the new information society, that it is beginnig to underpin all human activities and human relations. Social and economic forms of working and living including social concepts of service, identity, and society are being redefined and represented in the image of the global paradigm. The conference will discuss these conflicts and dilemmas, and how we may shape technologies and systems which respond to cultural needs, aspirations and interests of people and societies.

Conference Topics

  • Digital Cities or Cities of Innovation: Working, living and learning in the new Millenium
  • Community Networks and Active Citizenship: a participative paradigm for socio-economic development
  • Cultural Landscapes: paradoxes and dilemmas of globalisation and localisation
