Information on Final Year
Projects
Project Ideas
I'm interested in supervising
projects
in the most areas of Human Computer Interaction and Digital Media, especially mobile applications and those with an emphasis on user research, evaluation and interaction design. I
would also be interested in projects with a methodological interest,
e.g.
new ways of evaluating a product, methods for involving end users, new
design languages and so on.
The following are some specific
ideas
for projects I would like to see developed, but feel free to suggest your own:
Innovative user-centred product
prototypes
-
design and implementation of a
tool
to support user experience designers carrying out usablity evaluations of software
- applications for
an interactive
context aware mobile service using GPS and/or RFID tags. We have a toolkit to make implementing mobile, context sensitive services pretty easy. Tourist guides or similar would work well. An evaluation of the toolkit would also be a good project.
-
evaluation study of mobile/iTV
devices,
programmes or services with specific user groups, e.g. young males,
older
people, children, etc. Applications for the Wii or PSP would be interesting here.
Educational software
-
an authoring system for outdoor mobile games (part of a research project)
-
programs to support language learners or students with English as a second language (part of a research project)
-
design of an intelligent Web
site supporting
students in their group projects
- redesign and implement a multimedia authoring kit for children
- a mobile treasure hunt for new students in Induction Week
- a student portfolio site where stduents can display their work and CV's to potential employers
Call in to Watts 602 or email
if you want to discuss a project.
