CS221 Human-Computer Interaction - Assignment
Last updated: 17th February 1999
Rationale
To give you experience of designing the user interface of a more complex
system, and of reflecting on the design methodology used and its theoretical
background.
Task
Perform a user interface design for the Patient_Monitoring_System
described in the problem statement provided for your CS222
Software Development assignment.
Deliverables
-
A prototype design for the interface, together with documentation of the
stages in the design process using the GUIDE methodology. The stages
“Model User Tasks” and “Model User Objects” will have much in common with
the CS222 deliverables, and should be developed contemporaneously with
them.
-
Demonstration of the prototype user interfaces.
-
Reflection on the assignment (to be submitted individually); reviewing
problems and issues, making links with HCI theory, and examining connections
with the design process taught in CS222.
Assessment
Weighting
-
Prototype design: 50%
-
Demonstration: 30%
-
Reflection: 20%
Criteria
Intermediate products of the GUIDE process must be available for inspection
at the dates given on the accompanying course
schedule.
-
Thoroughness with which the design has been carried out. Compliance
with the techniques of the GUIDE methodology. Competence and creativity
in the design of the interface.
-
Competence with which the demonstration is carried out. Ability to
discuss and justify design decisions.
-
Thoroughness and depth of the reflection.
Organization
You should work with the same partners as for CS222. You are strongly
recommended to work with partners in order to complete the task, and get
the most out of it. Marks for the work of a group will be shared
equally where there is evidence of equal participation by all members.
All deliverables must be finally handed in to me when the group demonstration
is given.
Demonstrations will take place in module week 13, the week of 31st.
